Boosting the Self-Esteem of Preteen and Teenage Girls

Who is Esthers of Tomorrow?

Esthers of Tomorrow in Clayton, NJ is a nonprofit, faith-based organization that revolves around safeguarding the well-being of teenage girls. Our goal is to help them tackle negative behaviors, self-images, and characteristics. These include:

Relationship Violence

Cyberbullying

Sexting

Dressing Appropriately

Unhealthy Eating

Poor Self-Esteem

Lack of Self-Image

Poor Etiquette

We have a certified trainer available at all times to teach charm classes, etiquette programs, and lessons on social skills for preteen and teenage girls. By providing these services, we aim to reduce the number of cases of teens dropping out, getting pregnant, abusing drugs and alcohol, and acquiring sexually transmitted diseases.

Our projects also seek to prevent them from being subjected to the juvenile justice system and becoming state-dependent statistics. We strive to raise girls’ self-esteem, self-image, and self-respect.

Esthers of Tomorrow’s Objectives

To introduce new services specifically for the well-being of teenage girls

To maintain high-quality services

To become the community's first choice for support, seminars, workshops, life skills and etiquette training, and exercise programs for teen girls

The Problems We Are Facing

According to the 2007 Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Surveillance of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 15- to 24-year-olds acquire nearly half of all new STDs. These are alarming numbers to say the least.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys of 2003 to 2006 show that obesity is still increasing amongst preteens and teenagers. This saw an escalation from 5.0% all the way to 17.6%.

Published in 2003, “A Chartbook of Social and Health Indicators in New Jersey” advises that teenagers who have low self-esteem and self-image are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, get pregnant at a young age, and drop out of school. “The National Survey of American Attitudes on Substance Abuse X: Teens and Parents” corroborates this.
